What is ICM?
The Independent Chip Model (ICM) converts tournament chip counts into real dollar equity. It works by calculating the probability each player finishes in each position, then multiplying by the payout for that position.
ICM is critical at final tables and in late-stage MTTs. A player with 40% of chips doesn't have 40% of the prize pool because chips have diminishing value as you accumulate more. ICM explains why big stacks should avoid flipping for their tournament life against other big stacks.
