Understanding Pot Odds

Pot odds are the ratio of the current pot size to the cost of a call. They tell you how often you need to win the hand to break even. If the pot is $100 and your opponent bets $50, the total pot becomes $150 and you must call $50, giving you pot odds of 3:1, requiring 25% equity to call.

The formula: Required equity = Bet ÷ (Pot + Bet) × 100

Any time your hand equity exceeds the required equity, calling is mathematically profitable in the long run. Combine this tool with the Texas Hold'em Equity Calculator to estimate your hand equity.
